Cold Weather will Kill Elderly People This Year
The UK’s leading weather forecasters, TheWeatherOutlook, has suggested that we will see around a 45% chance of snow this Winter. Even if you don’t get any snow where you live, you will feel the effects of it as this Winter is predicted to be colder than average. Now at all what we want to hear as we look at the price of heating our homes.
The Autumn just gone was quite mild, temperate wise, we only experienced increased rain fall. However, as we get started into Winter, the weather has begun to make a considerable change. We are beginning to see the cold weather approaching which will come as quite a shock to the system for many people.
Almost 40,000 people died during the cold weather that we faced last Winter. This death toll was almost 50% higher than that of the previous year. Of those 37,000 that died, well over 90% of them were pensioners because they are the mostvulnerabledue to being unable to pay heating bills and being more likely to catch cold based health problems.
Now with another cold Winter predicted, plus we are still in a global recession, it’s estimated that even more pensioners will die this Winter. There are some methods of staying warm while paying less. One would be the use of portable heaters which allow affordable heating without having to use the central heating. A fan heater is another alternative to powering up the central heating. These portable heaters provide an almost instant supply of heat however, they do require mains power which will raise your electricity bill.
The final alternative, the probably the best, would be a paraffin heater. These highly portable appliances are brilliant as they are cheap and require no wires. The more modern paraffin heaters are very stylish and give off alot of heat. They also feature many safety features such as anti-topple features which switch the device off when toppled over.
All of the above would help to cut the death toll that we see each Winter. Unfortunately you can’t buy indoor patio heatersas these are a great source of heat. For those of us that survive the Winter chill, we will be able to look ahead to what’s predicted to be the warmest summer ever.
