What If You Can’t Hear Your Phone Ring?

Even when relatively young you’ll probably find yourself coming face to face with the realities of getting old. There will be someone in your life be it a family member or a friend who starts to struggle with every day life simply because of their age.

In my case it was my mother. Going a bit deaf is considered quite normal as people get older so you just shrug it off as one of those things. You just get used to talking that little bit louder and having to repeat yourself quite often.

It became a problem that couldn’t be ignored when she began to not notice that her phone was ringing. I’d ring at my usual time only for the phone not to be picked up. Then half an hour later she’d phone me and ask why I hadn’t phoned her. Then I’d have to say I had.

Of course we did turn the phone ringer volume up to its highest setting but normal phones just aren’t loud enough. The result was she still kept missing those calls.

Because of this I began to look for a phone for the hard of hearing that would suit her. Of course I needed one that had a very louder ringer which they all seem to have, which is good.

Then I looked at the buttons. My mother doesn’t have the best of sight so big buttons were a must so that she could dial a number if she needed to though I programmed her most used numbers into the phone so she could access them a the touch of a single button.

As she could hear quite well once she had picked up the phone I didn’t go for one of the high amplification range. All she need was phone with average amplification to just allow her to boost up the level if she felt she needed to in the future.

She’s glad I got her one of these hard of hearing phones as now she hears her phone when it rings even if she’s in another room at the time and there’s nothing complicated about using it. And at her age that’s exactly what you want. And everyone else is happy because she now picks up the phone when they ring.
